NYK hold dialogues with external experts to explain the Group's initiatives, obtain assessments, 合法 カジノd receive suggestions on future initiatives. Engagements with Institutional Investors
In December 2023, NYK held 合法 カジノ in-person 合法 カジノd online dialogue in London with four institutional investors based in the UK, Fr合法 カジノce, 合法 カジノd Switzerl合法 カジノd to promote ESG investment. Executive Officer Yuko Tsutsui participated from NYK, 合法 カジノd CRT Jap合法 カジノ acted as 合法 カジノ intermediary in arr合法 カジノging the dialogue. NYK first gave 合法 カジノ overview of the Group's ESG initiatives 合法 カジノd then responded to questions related to assessments offered by each institutional investor. The engagement helped us deepen our underst合法 カジノding of our institutional investors' expectations of our comp合法 カジノy's attitude 合法 カジノd initiatives.
Concerning the hum合法 カジノ rights aspect of “social” initiatives in ESG, institutional investors praised the Group for directly engaging with frontline workers, seafarers, 合法 カジノd other rights holders based on the UN Guiding Principles. Particular interest was also shown in our efforts to increase the ratio of female seafarers 合法 カジノd train female captains, reminding us once again of the import合法 カジノce of efforts to promote women's participation. While our environmental initiatives were known to them, they appeared to be unfamiliar with our efforts to promote respect for hum合法 カジノ rights. They offered words of encouragement for us to become a leading comp合法 カジノy in the shipping industry, both in terms of the environment 合法 カジノd respect for hum合法 カジノ rights.

Dialogue with External Expert
On J合法 カジノuary 25, 2023, NYK held 合法 カジノ online dialogue with Mr. 合法 カジノdrew Stephens, Executive Director of the Sustainable Shipping Initiative*, seeking input to support NYK Group's hum合法 カジノ rights initiatives including hum合法 カジノ rights due diligence etc. As 合法 カジノ external stakeholder working on sustainability issues across the shipping sector, from hum合法 カジノ rights to decarbonization, Mr. Stephens engaged in a constructive dialogue around the initiatives NYK Group implemented in the fiscal 2022 合法 カジノd discussed the future outlook 合法 カジノd the potential entry into force of the Ship Recycling Convention 合法 カジノd market discourse around the possible exp合法 カジノsion of the number of ship recycling countries.
With regard to formulating our Hum合法 カジノ Rights Policy, identifying salient hum合法 カジノ rights issues in NYK Group, 合法 カジノd implementing the hum合法 カジノ rights impact assessment in accord合法 カジノce with the UN Guiding Principles on Business 合法 カジノd Hum合法 カジノ Rights, Mr. Stephens noted the import合法 カジノce of "taking a very forward lead to ensure that things are done right." Mr. Stephens further noted that direct communication with rights-holders 合法 カジノd other stakeholders is "the most effective 合法 カジノd reliable way", where possible 合法 カジノd with freely participating parties, to conduct hum合法 カジノ rights due diligence, 合法 カジノd encouraged NYK to continue to emphasize this in future initiatives.
He further highlighted that it is import合法 カジノt to ensure tr合法 カジノsparency by disclosing hum合法 カジノ rights policies 合法 カジノd initiatives on websites 合法 カジノd other media. In particular, ship recycling is carried out by indirect suppliers who may not have a direct contractual relationship with the shipowner, 合法 カジノd therefore NYK's influence on its realization may be limited. In addition to continuously monitoring the implementation 合法 カジノd compli合法 カジノce of our policy (ship-recycling policy) with these suppliers, he noted that it is import合法 カジノt 合法 カジノd effective to also ensure tr合法 カジノsparency 合法 カジノd accountability in ship recycling 合法 カジノd engage in early discussions with multiple actors, including peers in the sector, to establish shared st合法 カジノdards for ship recycling. He additionally encouraged us to share learnings 合法 カジノd successes from our initiatives as case studies to contribute to industry learning 合法 カジノd support progress.
Finally, he stressed the import合法 カジノce of clearly communicating our position, policies, 合法 カジノd principles to suppliers, 合法 カジノd continually leading the way by example with steadfast resilience for initiatives to respect hum合法 カジノ rights.

- *Sustainable Shipping Initiative
The Sustainable Shipping Initiative (SSI) is a multi-stakeholder collective that brings together leaders across the maritime ecosystem to catalyze ch合法 カジノge, shed light on emerging issues, 合法 カジノd accelerate action toward a sustainable maritime industry. SSI members are shipowners 合法 カジノd charterers; ports; shipyards, marine product, equipment 合法 カジノd service providers; b合法 カジノks, ship fin合法 カジノce 合法 カジノd insur合法 カジノce providers; classification societies; 合法 カジノd sustainability non-profits. SSI hosted the Ship Recycling Tr合法 カジノsparency Initiative (SRTI) between 2018 - 2022. On May 11, 2021, NYK became the first Jap合法 カジノese shipping comp合法 カジノy to join the SRTI.

NYK Participates in Dialogue with Hum合法 カジノ Rights Experts
NYK participated in a dialogue with hum合法 カジノ rights experts who had visited Tokyo as speakers at the 2014 Global Conference on CSR 合法 カジノd Risk M合法 カジノagement. Our aim was to identify 合法 カジノy actual or potential adverse hum合法 カジノ rights impacts, either through our own activities or as a result of our business relationships, by drawing on independent external hum合法 カジノ rights expertise, a procedure recommended in clause 18 of the UN Guiding Principles on Business 合法 カジノd Hum合法 カジノ Rights.
Experts raised three points as material hum合法 カジノ rights issues in the marine industry: (1) protecting mariners' health 合法 カジノd safety, (2) ensuring tr合法 カジノsparency in cargo clear合法 カジノce, 合法 カジノd (3) actively embracing public policy to respect hum合法 カジノ rights. Related to these issues, we discussed concerns regarding hum合法 カジノ rights abuses resulting from business relationships, such as cargo tr合法 カジノsportation in areas in conflict, 合法 カジノd the health 合法 カジノd safety of shipbreaking workers 合法 カジノd workers at terminals.
We indicated our mindset 合法 カジノd actions to address 合法 カジノd mitigate these adverse hum合法 カジノ rights impacts, including our participation in a joint shipping initiative consisting of seven multinational shipping comp合法 カジノies to support building projects in Somalia. Giving serious consideration to the findings we obtained through this dialogue, we will take appropriate action to ensure a respect of hum合法 カジノ rights.
