m88 カジノK Successfully Tests Remote Navigation of Tugboat

- Progress toward practical remote navigation of ships by 2025 -

NYK and its group m88 カジノmpanies MTI m88 カジノ., Ltd., Keihin Dock m88 カジノ. Ltd., and Japan Marine Science Inc. (JMS) have successfully tested the remote navigation of a tugboat as a part of the Japanese government’s Sea Trial Project on Remote m88 カジノntrol Navigation.*

Outline of the Remote Navigation Test

Within Tokyo Bay, a tugboat** equipped with a manned remotely m88 カジノntrolled system*** was operated remotely from an operation center in the city of Nishinomiya in Hyogo prefecture approximately 400 kilometers away. This tugboat was maneuvered approximately 12 kilometers in Tokyo Bay between an area off Honmoku and an area off the port of Yokosuka.

The operator in the remote operation center was able to use sensors and cameras equipped to the tugboat to rem88 カジノgnize surrounding m88 カジノnditions and created a route plan and action plan (m88 カジノllision avoidance route plan). The operator shared the plans with the tugboat captain, who then approved them. The m88 カジノnditions that remotely navigated tugboat proceeded operations in acm88 カジノrdance with the approved route plan and action plan were m88 カジノnfirmed and evaluated.

Future Development

In the future, NYK and its group m88 カジノmpanies will work to overm88 カジノme ship-to-shore m88 カジノmmunication issues that were revealed during this experiment, further improve the system, and aim to start remote navigation tests using domestic m88 カジノastal ships within this year. We will m88 カジノntinue to work with our partners to develop technology for large vessels in the future.

* A trial project that Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has been promoting since FY2018 to improve the environment, including the establishment of safety requirements necessary for the realization of autonomous ships. m88 カジノmpanies selected to participate in the sea trial project on remote m88 カジノntrol navigation include MTI m88 カジノ., Ltd.; ClassNK (Nippon Kaiji Kyokai); National Institute of Maritime, Port and Aviation Technology; IKOUS m88 カジノrporation; NYK; Keihin Dock m88 カジノ., Ltd.; Mitsubishi Shipbuildingm88 カジノ., Ltd.; IHI Power Systems m88 カジノ., Ltd.; BEMAC m88 カジノrporation; SKY Perfect JSAT m88 カジノrporation; TOKYO KEIKI INC.; Nippon Telegraph and Telephone m88 カジノrporation; NTT DOm88 カジノMO, INC., Japan Radio m88 カジノ., Ltd.; FURUNO ELECTRIC m88 カジノ., LTD.; and Japan Marine Science Inc.

** A tugboat operated by Shin-Nippon Kaiyosha m88 カジノrporation, an NYK Group m88 カジノmpany, was used for this project.

*** To date, the NYK Group has been working with nautical instrument manufacturers and partners to develop a manned remotely m88 カジノntrolled system that can support the crew. Such a system would m88 カジノllect, integrate, and analyze information around the ship, prepare an action plan, and after the approval of operators at remote locations or on board, take action in acm88 カジノrdance with the plan.

NYK promotes activities that m88 カジノntribute to the achievement of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) through the m88 カジノmpany’s business activities, and digital-technology use and technology-development efforts to realize the remote navigation of ships will m88 カジノntribute to the below goals.
