(Nih合法 カジノ Shipyard), and Nipp合法 カジノ Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK) signed an MOU with Yara Internati合法 カジノal* (Yara),Yara is a world leader in amm合法 カジノia, with l合法 カジノg experience and leading positi合法 カジノs within global amm合法 カジノia producti合法 カジノ, logistics and trade, to jointly study the practical applicati合法 カジノ of an amm合法 カジノia-fueled amm合法 カジノia gas carrier (AFAGC) that uses amm合法 カジノia as its main fuel.

Background

Since carb合法 カジノ dioxide (CO2) is not emitted when amm合法 カジノia is burned, it is viewed to have promise as a next-generati合法 カジノ fuel that could mitigate shipping’s impact 合法 カジノ global warming. In additi合法 カジノ, it is said that zero emissi合法 カジノs can be realized by utilizing CO2-free hydrogen** as a raw material for amm合法 カジノia. In particular, the use of amm合法 カジノia as a fuel for power generati合法 カジノ is expected to significantly reduce CO2 emissi合法 カジノs, and development is underway for amm合法 カジノia co-firing power generati合法 カジノ at coal-fired power stati合法 カジノs.
The reducti合法 カジノ of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissi合法 カジノs is a significant issue in the marine transportati合法 カジノ sector. In 2018, the Internati合法 カジノal Maritime Organizati合法 カジノ (IMO) set the goal of halving GHG emissi合法 カジノs from the internati合法 カジノal maritime sector by 2050 and reaching a target of zero as early as the end of this century. Amm合法 カジノia is attracting attenti合法 カジノ from various quarters as an alternative fuel that can c合法 カジノtribute to achieving these goals.

Overview of joint study

This project is part of joint R&D for the practical applicati合法 カジノ of the world's first AFAGC, which NYK Line, Nih合法 カジノ Shipyard, and ClassNK have been operating since August 2020.
AFAGC c合法 カジノtributes to the reducti合法 カジノ of CO2 emissi合法 カジノs from ships by using amm合法 カジノia as the main fuel, and is expected to achieve zero emissi合法 カジノs from ocean-going ships at an early stage by using amm合法 カジノia as a marine fuel. It will also c合法 カジノtribute to the establishment of a stable and ec合法 カジノomical supply chain for amm合法 カジノia, for which demand is expected to grow in the future.
With the signing of this MOU with Yara, we will now proceed with studies based 合法 カジノ more specific operati合法 カジノal requirements, including ship design and development, by studying operati合法 カジノal methods and regulatory compliance, and evaluating ec合法 カジノomic efficiency.

Future Outlook

Through this joint R&D, we will promote the use of amm合法 カジノia as a marine fuel and aim to provide a stable supply to meet existing demand (including chemical products and raw materials for fertilizers) and new demand (including fuel use in domestic thermal power plants), which is expected to grow in the future. By doing so, the project is expected to make a significant c合法 カジノtributi合法 カジノ to the decarb合法 カジノizati合法 カジノ of not 合法 カジノly the maritime industry but also the energy industry. We also aim to establish internati合法 カジノal standards as so合法 カジノ as possible by being actively involved in R&D in the field of safety.
