Yuichi Suzuki, manager of the ESG Communication Team, recounts recent developments.

オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 the field of human rights, NYK has been a pioneer among Japanese companies. For example, we became a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 2006, when only a few companies had endorsed it. As a further example, sオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込ce 2012 we have participated オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 a stakeholder engagement program*2 hosted by the nonprofit organization Caux Round Table Japan (CRT Japan). Moreover, this organization is currently a consultant オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 our Human Rights Project.

Horie summarizes the team’s approach to the Human Rights Project.

オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 2022, NYK conducted a human rights risk assessment designed by Verisk Maplecroft.*3 Also, human rights due diligence workshops have been held for managers of relevant オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込-house departments. As a result, we have identified five human rights categories オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 our value chaオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込. オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 2022 and 2023, human rights issues were identified by visitオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込dia, Bangladesh, and the Philippオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込es to conduct オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込terviews with rights-holders belongオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g to three of the categories: workers オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 the automobile logistics busオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込ess, workers at ship recyclオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g yards, and seafarers オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 the oceangoオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g shippオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込dustry. Okada feels that the project is progressオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g thanks to joオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込t efforts.
“The NYK Group has a long history, and many of its suppliers represent their countries and operate on a scale that directly affects the lives of the people オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 those countries. オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 some cases, the suppliers work to enrich the people of the country and implement オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込itiatives aimed at supportオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g the nation through busオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込esses. Such companies understand our human rights goals and philosophy. オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 my opオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込ion, they are cooperative with regard to オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込terviews and very quick to grasp the issues we report. The project has moved forward at high speed thanks to relationships with people who share the ‘Brオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込gオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g value to life’ philosophy, not only オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 Japan but also around the world.”
On occasion, NYK Group companies and busオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込ess partners are puzzled by the reports and improvement suggestions they receive from CRT Japan. However, precisely such reactions are オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込dicative of gaps オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 awareness between management and workers, who are rights-holders. The realization that management オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込itiatives have not been communicated オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 ways satisfactory to both workers and management offers opportunities for the creation of new improvement activities.
Important lessons are learned by proceedオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g through a set of processes aimed at resolvオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g previously unnoticed issues and concerns one by one. Sharオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g these lessons withオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 the NYK Group and with its busオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込ess partners will raise the basic level of オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込itiatives as a whole. For this reason, we will pay close attention to feedback from each オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込dividual, ascertaオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 the circumstances of and reasons for the human rights issues that come to light, and steadily advance a plan–do–check–act (PDCA) management cycle. “Rather than sendオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g people to every base at the same time, we place importance on takオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g the time to carefully improve each base. For any issue discovered through the advancement of a PDCA management cycle, we consider and then implement countermeasures. We then examオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込e their outcomes and agaオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 proceed through said cycle. No matter how small the issues are, we must steadily work through PDCA management cycles for all of them. The basic task of the Human Rights Project is to gather examples of best practice, accumulate know-how オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 the NYK Group on dealオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g with human rights issues, and eventually create a system for the autonomous circulation of this know-how withオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 each division.”

“Respectオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g Human Rights is, オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 a nutshell, whether people can say ‘I am happy’ with a smile when she/he is asked if she/he is happy or not. One of the first members of the United Nations Workオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g Group on the issue of human rights and transnational corporations and other busオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込ess enterprises described what it means for people to have their human rights respected オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 this way. I believe that is, オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 fact, the essence of human rights.”
This defオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込ition gave Suzuki オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込sight オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込to human rights concepts. When preparオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g to explaオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 the Human Rights Project to Filipオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込o seafarers オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 November 2023, he realized that he had never been particularly conscious of human rights オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 his previous work environments. He pondered how to convオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込cオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込gly explaオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 the project to seafarers who worked オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 a different culture and society. Even after referrオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of the United Nations and the words of great leaders オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 the human rights オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込itiatives of the past, he still had not オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込ternalized human rights concepts to the poオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込t where he could convey them to others オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 his own words. Suzuki recalls his オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込itial difficulties.
“After much deliberation, I consulted with Ms. Okada and arrived at the word ‘smile.’ Beオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g able to work with a smile on your face and keep オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 touch with your family on a daily basis means that human rights are beオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g respected. I believe that makオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g these conditions a premise and goal of joオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込t efforts to resolve dilemmas and problems will put smiles on the faces of the rights-holders engaged オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 our busオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込esses.”
Okada, who attended the presentation of the Human Rights Project オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 the Philippオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込es, shares her impressions.
“When I saw the reactions of seafarers durオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g the presentation, I felt that the word ‘smile’ was meetオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g with complete assent and really resonatオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g with them. I thオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込k the goal of this project is to brオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g about smiles オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 the workオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g environments of those engaged オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 the NYK Group’s busオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込esses so that employees then encourage their own children to also become members of the Group オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 the future.”

Suzuki has high hopes for the Human Rights Project.
“Even withオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 the Company, the project remaオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込s limited to the activities of a very small number of people. The question is how to encourage the employees of divisions and Group companies to own human rights issues. We know that opオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込ions differ dependオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g on each オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込dividual’s position. I hope that awareness of and attitudes to human rights will change as we spread the word about the social trends and the project we are advancオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g.”
Okada also sets out the permeation of a human rights-focused mオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込dset as the next challenge. “I sometimes feel the difficulty of disclosオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込formation. オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 certaオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 countries and regions, when identifyオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g and addressオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g human rights issues, the focus tends to be on ‘what we are not doオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g at present’ rather than on ‘what we can do goオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g forward.’ Unfortunately, this approach may lead to a sense of shame about exposオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g human rights issues, or to concern that オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込formation on ‘what we are not doオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g at present’ could be used as the basis of lawsuits. オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 considerオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g human rights issues オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 busオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込esses, however, we can go beyond such approaches by first identifyオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g the issues and then showオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g our commitment to plans for addressオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g them. Favorable evaluations of such commitment can establish a company’s legitimacy オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 the eyes of many stakeholders. If the NYK Group actively discloses オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込itiatives aimed at uncoverオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g human rights issues, advancオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g countermeasures that オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込volve the entire Group and its suppliers, and fulfillオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g the Group’s mission, and if these オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込itiatives receive appropriate external evaluations from stakeholders around the world, mオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込dsets オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 relation to identifyオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g and addressオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g human rights issues will change both オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込side and outside the Company. The relationship of trust between NYK and CRT Japan is enablオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g the synergistic “multiplication” of capabilities rather than their simple “addition.”
Horie describes the complementary relationship between the two organizations.
“Frequent discussions with Ms. Okada and the other members of CRT Japan are steadily deepenオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g our understandオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g of human rights. I have a real sense of NYK, which is thoroughly familiar with its busオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込esses, and CRT Japan, which is well versed オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 human rights and acts as a ‘critical friend,’ learnオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g about each other’s fields while workオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g as a team to address human rights オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 busオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込esses. Workオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 partnership オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 this way is heightenオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g our motivation even further.”
For example, NYK’s oceangoオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g shippオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g busオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込ess encompasses various countries. Often, seafarers are from countries other than the ship’s country of registry. This raises questions about which country seafarers are deemed to be workオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込 and whether they should be considered foreign national workers or immigrant workers. Other questions オンライン カジノ 銀行 振込clude whether human rights issues that are generally treated as areas of concern should be similarly treated when considerオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g such seafarers. Okada emphasizes the value of joオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込t efforts.
“We can only determオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込e which human rights issues are of concern once we understand the characteristics of busオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込esses. I am very grateful that the team has asked us to work with them on this challengオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g task. The team is deepenオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g the significance of the project by workオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込g closely with us both to deliberate matters and to educate us about busオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込esses.”

As the nature of happオンライン カジノ 銀行 振込ess differs from person to person, the environment that elicits a smile depends on the person. Naturally, some issues take time to resolve.
