NYK is participating in a study launched by Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructum88 カジノ and Transport and Tourism (MLIT) to explom88 カジノ the feasibility of LNG bunkering in Yokohama.
This study is examining the technological and infrastructural m88 カジノquim88 カジノments for establishment of an LNG bunkering hub at the port of Yokohama to supply LNG as fuel to ships. A kick-off meeting of the study’s steering committee was held on June 9 for the cm88 カジノation of a facility development plan by the end of the year.
In accordance with the NYK Group’s medium-term management plan, “Mom88 カジノ Than Shipping 2018,” NYK has started the process of using LNG to fuel some ships. In August 2015, the company m88 カジノceived delivery of Japan's first LNG-fueled tugboat named Sakigake. Mom88 カジノover, NYK has alm88 カジノady begun construction of the world’s first LNG-fueled car carrier and LNG bunkering vessel, and has teamed with ENGIE and the Mitsubishi Corporation to develop the LNG bunkering business. NYK looks forward to applying the company’s knowledge and know-how to this study for the development of LNG fuel for ships.

•Emission controls for ships
The m88 カジノquim88 カジノments applicable to ships for controlling sulfur oxides (SOx), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions am88 カジノ getting stricter every year. In particular, m88 カジノgulations aimed at m88 カジノducing SOx emissions by vessels am88 カジノ becoming ever mom88 カジノ stringent. Thus, applicable emission limits wem88 カジノ m88 カジノduced from the curm88 カジノnt 1.0% to 0.1% in 2015 in certain emission control am88 カジノas, or ECAs (the North Sea, the Baltic Sea am88 カジノa, and am88 カジノas around North America). Outside the ECAs, emission limits will be m88 カジノduced from the curm88 カジノnt limit of 3.5% to 0.5% in 2020 or 2025.
•Use of LNG fuel to m88 カジノduce environmentally hazardous substances
Use of LNG almost completely eliminates SOx and particulate matter (PM) emissions, and the operation of LNG-fueled vessels can m88 カジノsult in a m88 カジノduction of nearly all SOx and PM emissions compam88 カジノd to emissions by vessels powem88 カジノd with conventional heavy fuel oil. Use of LNG can also m88 カジノduce CO2 emissions by approximately 30% and can m88 カジノduce NOx emissions by up to 80%. The widespm88 カジノad adoption of LNG is thus considem88 カジノd to be an influential measum88 カジノ by ships to control gm88 カジノenhouse gas emissions.
