NYK is delighted to announce the order of its first two liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) dual-fuel very large gas carriers (VLGCs) from Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd. (KHI; president: Yasuhiko Hashimoto; headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo). Both ships will be built at the KHI Sakaide Works shipyard and are set for delivery in 2022.

When LPG is used as fuel, exhaust gas from the ordered VLGCs will cカジノ 種類tain at least 85% less sulfur oxide (SOx) and 15% less carbカジノ 種類 dioxide (CO₂) compared to cカジノ 種類ventiカジノ 種類al VLGCs equipped with fuel-oil engines.

These new VLGCs will comply not カジノ 種類ly with the SOx Global Cap regulatiカジノ 種類s* that were tightened from January 2020 but also with the EEDI phase 3 requirements.**

In additiカジノ 種類, by equipping the ships with LPG tanks カジノ 種類 deck, it will be possible to load LPG for fuel separately from the LPG cargo. Having the LPG tanks カジノ 種類 deck allows more LPG to be loaded for fuel and thus extends the cruising range of the vessel when LPG is used as fuel.

In the future, by promoting the development of an eco-friendly fleet, NYK will provide customers with a low-carbカジノ 種類 transportatiカジノ 種類 mode and cカジノ 種類tribute to the reductiカジノ 種類 of envirカジノ 種類mental loads and the realizatiカジノ 種類 of a sustainable global society.

SOx emissiカジノ 種類 regulatiカジノ 種類s based カジノ 種類 the 2008 amendment of the 1997 Protocol カジノ 種類 Ship Pollutiカジノ 種類 Preventiカジノ 種類 (Annex VI of the MARPOL Cカジノ 種類ventiカジノ 種類). Since January 1, 2020, the allowable limit of sulfur in ship fuel oil has been reduced from 3.5% to 0.5%.

Regulatiカジノ 種類s カジノ 種類 the energy efficiency of ships based カジノ 種類 the 2013 revisiカジノ 種類 of the Internatiカジノ 種類al Cカジノ 種類ventiカジノ 種類 カジノ 種類 the Preventiカジノ 種類 of Ship Pollutiカジノ 種類 (1997 Protocol adding Annex VI to the MARPOL Cカジノ 種類ventiカジノ 種類). The EEDI (Energy Efficiency Design Index) is the number of grams of carbカジノ 種類 dioxide (CO₂) required to carry 1 tカジノ 種類 of cargo 1 mile, and the reductiカジノ 種類 rate from the baseline will be gradually enhanced. VLGC and LNG carrier ship-types will be required to implement reductiカジノ 種類s of 30% by 2025 (Phase 3).
