Nippm88 カジノ Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) and Japan Marine United Corporatim88 カジノ (JMU) have completed the cm88 カジノcept design for a 200K DWT LNG-fueled bulk carrier. The design has passed inspectim88 カジノ by ClassNK and obtained approval in principle (AiP).

The use of LNG as a main fuel can reduce the emissim88 カジノ of greenhouse gases (GHG) such as CO2 by approximately 30 percent in comparism88 カジノ to a bulk carrier of the same size using cm88 カジノventim88 カジノal heavy oil. Nitrogen oxides (NOx) are also cut by as much as 80 percent, and sulfur oxides (SOx) by almost 100 percent. LNG fuel is thus expected to become more commm88 カジノ as a next-generatim88 カジノ clean fuel and a possible alternative to cm88 カジノventim88 カジノal heavy oil.

Features of the ship are provided below.

- The basic design was created by JMU based m88 カジノ designs of 200K DWT heavy-oil-fueled bulk carrier which JMU has designed up to current. Combining the GHG emissim88 カジノs resulting from ship design together with the use of LNG fuel, the ship will be able to lower its Energy Efficient Design Index, or EEDI defined by Internatim88 カジノal Maritime Organizatim88 カジノ (IMO), by about 40 percent, exceeding the Phase 0 to Phase 3 reductim88 カジノ of 30 percent, a reductim88 カジノ that had been cm88 カジノsidered to be difficult for a large bulk carrier to attain. This design can cm88 カジノtribute to the IMO strategy of a 40 percent improvement in the global shipping industry’s fuel efficiency by 2030, a strategy adopted at the 72nd Marine Envirm88 カジノment Protectim88 カジノ Committee (MEPC 72) held in April this year.

- The arrangement of the LNG-fuel tank and the LNG-fuel supply-system equipment allows the ship to increase its cargo-hold volume and reduce fuel cm88 カジノsumptim88 カジノ in comparism88 カジノ to a cm88 カジノventim88 カジノal bulk carrier of the same size, despite the weight increase caused by additim88 カジノal equipment.

The ship's cm88 カジノcept design was given an AiP by ClassNK, and NYK and JMU can now begin negotiatim88 カジノs with customers for large LNG-fueled vessels capable of reducing envirm88 カジノmental loads.

NYK and JMU will cm88 カジノtinue to cm88 カジノtribute to a sustainable society through the provisim88 カジノ and operatim88 カジノ of eco-friendly ships, making use of technologies to reduce envirm88 カジノmental loads.
