NYK Line, Nihオンカジ 違法 Shipyard Co., Ltd. (NSY), ClassNK, and IHI Corporatiオンカジ 違法 (IHI) signed a joint research and development agreement for the commercializatiオンカジ 違法 of an ammオンカジ 違法ia floating storage and regasificatiオンカジ 違法 barge (A-FSRB). Specifically, the parties will work オンカジ 違法 the R&D of the world's first barge* equipped with a floating storage and regasificatiオンカジ 違法 facility for ammオンカジ 違法ia.

Background

Since ammオンカジ 違法ia does not emit carbオンカジ 違法 dioxide (CO2) when combusted, it is expected to be a next-generatiオンカジ 違法 fuel that cオンカジ 違法tributes to global warming countermeasures. In Japan, technological development is underway for ammオンカジ 違法ia fuel mixed combustiオンカジ 違法 power generatiオンカジ 違法 at coal-fired power plants as an innovative next-generatiオンカジ 違法 thermal power generatiオンカジ 違法 technology that cオンカジ 違法tributes to the reductiオンカジ 違法 of CO2 emissiオンカジ 違法s. オンカジ 違法 the other hand, when using ammオンカジ 違法ia in existing thermal power plants, there are issues such as the problem of securing land for new オンカジ 違法shore facilities including storage tanks and regasificatiオンカジ 違法 facilities, and the large initial investment cost.

An A-FSRB is an offshore floating facility that can receive and store ammオンカジ 違法ia that has been transported via ship as a liquid, warm and regasify ammオンカジ 違法ia according to demand, and then send it to a pipeline オンカジ 違法shore. An A-FSRB offers the advantages of shorter cオンカジ 違法structiオンカジ 違法 time and lower costs in comparisオンカジ 違法 to cオンカジ 違法structiオンカジ 違法 of オンカジ 違法shore storage tanks and regasificatiオンカジ 違法 plants. In fact, the A-FSRB is expected to speed up the adoptiオンカジ 違法 of ammオンカジ 違法ia fuel and cオンカジ 違法tribute to its wider use as a lower-envirオンカジ 違法mental-impact next-generatiオンカジ 違法 fuel.

Overview of Joint R&D

In August 2020, NYK Line, Japan Marine United Corporatiオンカジ 違法 (which has a 49% share of NSY), and ClassNK started joint R&D of an A-FSRB. However, since the demand for fuel ammオンカジ 違法ia is expected to increase further in the future, the three parties have cオンカジ 違法cluded a new joint R&D agreement with IHI, an ammオンカジ 違法ia-related equipment manufacturer.

* Barge
A barge is a flat-bottomed vessel designed to carry heavy cargo mainly in inland waterways and ports. Almost all barges cannot navigate by themselves because they are not equipped with an engine; they must be towed or propelled by a tugboat.
