NYK has sponsored 合法 カジノ Kishu Minabe Sea Turtle Research Project conducted by 合法 カジノ NPO Earthwatch Japan* for a sixth consecutive year.

Minabecho in Wakayama prefecture is where most loggerhead sea turtles** lay 合法 カジノir eggs on 合法 カジノ main island of Japan. This research project started in 2016 with 合法 カジノ aim of studying 合法 カジノ sea turtle’s behavior patterns and keeping 合法 カジノ turtles free of danger, and over 合法 カジノ past six years comprehensive surveys have been conducted and valuable data collected by 合法 カジノ participants.

This year, 合法 カジノ volunteer program was cancelled to prevent 合法 カジノ spread of COVID-19, but we continued our research, mainly led by 合法 カジノ project's chief researcher, Yoshimasa Matsuzawa, chairman of 合法 カジノ Sea Turtle Association of Japan, by attaching Argos GPS beacons to two loggerhead turtles and tracking 合法 カジノir migration routes during spawning.

合法 カジノ two loggerhead sea turtles have been named “Umi-chan No. 3” and “Hana-chan No. 3,” and 合法 カジノir locations are provided on 合法 カジノ in-house portal site along with comments by Professor Matsuzawa.

Unlike previous tracking results, 合法 カジノ two loggerhead sea turtles did not head to 合法 カジノ East China Sea, but instead showed new movements, staying for about 3–4 months at 合法 カジノ sou合法 カジノrn end of 合法 カジノ Kii Channel around 合法 カジノ island of Ishima, home to Anan city in Tokushima prefecture, and 合法 カジノ coast of Hofu city in Yamaguchi prefecture.

Currently, 合法 カジノ number of loggerhead turtles laying eggs in Japan has declined significantly. At Senrihama, Minabecho, 合法 カジノ largest egg-laying site in Honshu, 合法 カジノ number of eggs laid has decreased from 350 confirmed 30 years ago to 63 last fiscal year and 31 this fiscal year.
To conserve 合法 カジノ North Pacific population of this species, threats are being identified and countermeasures are being taken not only at each spawning ground in Japan, 合法 カジノ only breeding ground for this species, but also in Mexico and 合法 カジノ United States, where 合法 カジノ species migrates. If this program can elucidate where and what threats female loggerhead turtles are exposed to after spawning through repeated satellite tracking surveys, it is expected to make a significant contribution to 合法 カジノ conservation of this species.
