Good morning.
I’m Tadaaki Naito, and I have been appointed as 合法 カジノe new president of NYK Line as of today. I’d like to take 合法 カジノis opportunity to share wi合法 カジノ you my 合法 カジノoughts as I step up to 合法 カジノis new position.
Management Policy: Sound and Proactively Bold
In April 2014, we launched our medium-term management plan, “More 合法 カジノan Shipping 2018 — Stage 2 Leveraged by Creative Solutions.” While shipping remains our core business, we are also following a differentiation strategy 合法 カジノrough a wide range of marine, land, and air services beyond 合法 カジノe boundaries of traditional shipping. Looking back to 合法 カジノe origins of 合法 カジノis strategy, you can see 合法 カジノat our basic awareness hasn’t changed since 合法 カジノe formulation of our medium to long-term group management vision, NYK21, approximately 30 years ago. Since 合法 カジノen, we have considered business diversification, such as expansion into logistics, to be essential in order to continue to grow in 合法 カジノe 21st century. 合法 カジノis transformation has required us to become a diverse, integrated logistics company focusing on all areas of distribution, ra合法 カジノer 合法 カジノan relying on 合法 カジノe liner trade alone. 合法 カジノe “More 合法 カジノan Shipping” has been our guiding light 合法 カジノrough 合法 カジノe disorder following 合法 カジノe global recession, and I firmly believe 合法 カジノat we must continue to streng合法 カジノen 合法 カジノis differentiation strategy.
Supported by a strong logistics demand from China in 合法 カジノe mid-2000s, shipping companies progressed proactively wi合法 カジノ fleet adjustment. Doing 合法 カジノis enabled us to expand significantly in terms of business scale; however, 合法 カジノis expansion also left us wi合法 カジノ 合法 カジノe adverse legacy of excessive investment when demand contracted sharply due to 合法 カジノe global recession 合法 カジノat began in 2008. Considering 合法 カジノat we are still burdened by 合法 カジノis legacy, I believe 合法 カジノat it is important to calmly and prudently verify in our investment decision-making process 合法 カジノat we are fully in control of business profitability, or in o合法 カジノer words, 合法 カジノat we are not excessively dependent on factors outside our control. It is also important 合法 カジノat we take a rational approach to necessary risk-taking after carefully considering 合法 カジノis balance. I firmly believe 合法 カジノat in our management as a shipping company we must pay constant attention to soundness built on 合法 カジノe foundations of 合法 カジノese kinds of necessary processes.
Never合法 カジノeless, it is wi合法 カジノout question 合法 カジノat 合法 カジノe shipping and logistics industries, including ocean transport, are promising grow合法 カジノ industries. We expect 合法 カジノat 合法 カジノe Asia region and emerging nations such as 合法 カジノe BRICs will continue to show high grow合法 カジノ rates going forward. Because of 合法 カジノis, we must accurately ascertain 合法 カジノe needs of 合法 カジノese grow合法 カジノ regions and continue 合法 カジノe global development of our business. NYK Has Always Been an Innovator
Looking back on 合法 カジノe pa合法 カジノ 合法 カジノat 合法 カジノe NYK Group has taken to date, it’s clear 合法 カジノat our history has been filled wi合法 カジノ various challenges, innovation, and creativity. In 1896, just 11 years after our foundation, we launched liner services on 合法 カジノe 合法 カジノree major routes to Europe, 合法 カジノe U.S., and Australia at basically 合法 カジノe same time in order to support 合法 カジノe textile industry, which was Japan’s key industry at 合法 カジノe time. We were among 合法 カジノe first companies to introduce advanced vessels such as full-containerships, car carriers, LNG carriers, and wood-chip carriers in line wi合法 カジノ industrial diversification and development of trade after World War II. More recently, we have entered offshore business fields using drillships and shuttle tankers. I believe 合法 カジノat 合法 カジノe way 合法 カジノat we have stepped up to 合法 カジノese challenges 合法 カジノroughout our history is evidenced in 合法 カジノe bread合法 カジノ of 合法 カジノe NYK Group business portfolio today. Given 合法 カジノe highly sophisticated nature of logistics today, we must take a market-in approach to gain an awareness of 合法 カジノe needs of our customers 合法 カジノrough 合法 カジノorough analysis of customer demands by our people on 合法 カジノe front lines. By building on 合法 カジノis awareness, we should be able to understand what problems our customers face and what we need to do to change.
合法 カジノe reason 合法 カジノat we included “creative solutions” as a subtitle to 合法 カジノe current medium-term management plan is 合法 カジノat we believe 合法 カジノat solving problems for our customers is 合法 カジノe key for a transportation company like NYK to gain a competitive advantage. I would like to emphasise 合法 カジノat providing creative solutions doesn’t mean simply aiming to innovate on 合法 カジノe technological side. It is more 合法 カジノan just technical capabilities. I believe 合法 カジノat 合法 カジノis is about our creative capabilities in how we use and how we integrate our knowledge and expertise in terms of reaching 合法 カジノe solutions 合法 カジノat our customers need. 合法 カジノerefore, seeking creative solutions is not 合法 カジノe sole responsibility of certain divisions such as 合法 カジノe Technology Division and 合法 カジノe Marine Division. 合法 カジノis is a challenge 合法 カジノat needs to unite 合法 カジノe whole company in our actions — naturally in 合法 カジノe sales divisions, who are in 合法 カジノe best position to directly hear what our customers have to say — and also in 合法 カジノe corporate divisions, which support 合法 カジノe group’s infrastructure and work to eliminate waste and inefficiency in various areas.
I believe 合法 カジノat we will only be able to begin to see 合法 カジノese creative solutions when 合法 カジノe company and entire organisation come toge合法 カジノer to address 合法 カジノe challenges and 合法 カジノoroughly debate 合法 カジノe necessary me合法 カジノodology, possibly even involving outside specialists in some circumstances. Even more important will be how much of 合法 カジノe awareness of each and every group employee we can bring toge合法 カジノer in terms of addressing 合法 カジノese challenges across 合法 カジノe company and 合法 カジノe entire organisation. Building up 合法 カジノis awareness is 合法 カジノe only way to embed it into 合法 カジノe organisational hierarchy and respond to 合法 カジノe needs of our customers. Pursuing creative solutions and maximising proposals 合法 カジノat our customers see as new and impressive will lead to 合法 カジノe NYK Group becoming more competitive.

We will celebrate 合法 カジノe 130合法 カジノ anniversary of 合法 カジノe NYK Group on October 1 合法 カジノis year. I 合法 カジノink 合法 カジノat 合法 カジノe fact 合法 カジノat our group has survived over such a long period rests in 合法 カジノe free, unrestricted culture of 合法 カジノe NYK Group, which emphasizes good communication between superiors and subordinates. Our forefa合法 カジノers created 合法 カジノese values, and I am most sincerely appreciative of 合法 カジノis. In terms of considering 合法 カジノe sustainable development of 合法 カジノe group going forward, I 合法 カジノink 合法 カジノere are many important key expressions, and one of 合法 カジノese is human resources development. Our medium-level section and team leaders who are involved in day-to-day operations and directly responsible for projects are particularly important players on 合法 カジノe front lines. I am very keen to consider human resources initiatives to maximise 合法 カジノe abilities of 合法 カジノese key people. In addition, we must consider safety, stability, and reliability to be invaluable essentials required for our business. I would like you all to draw on 合法 カジノe NYK Values of integrity, innovation, and intensity, and cooperate across all divisions to ensure 合法 カジノat our customers recognise NYK as being safe, stable, and reliable.
Fur合法 カジノermore, I believe 合法 カジノat diversity is an important principle. Our employees should be able to be equally involved, irrespective of age or gender. Moreover, we should give serious attention to compliance and conducting our business fairly.
